Our Story: The Heart of Journey School
Journey School of Costa Rica is more than a school; it’s a thriving, connected community where education is as much about heart and humanity as it is about academics. Nestled in the breathtaking landscapes of Costa Rica’s Gold Coast, our school was created to nurture the whole child—mind, heart, and spirit—through meaningful experiences, authentic relationships, and a deep connection to the natural world.
Founded in 2016 as a pioneering pilot program, Journey School started with a dream and a dedicated group of 20 students and educators who believed education could be something more. Today, we’re proud to be a vibrant, international learning community serving 290 students both on-campus and online. This remarkable growth is powered by the passion and expertise of 30 exceptional educators and staff who bring a shared commitment to making every student feel seen, valued, and supported.
From the very beginning, Journey School was designed to be different. We understood that education isn’t just about memorizing facts or passing tests—it’s about developing life-long skills, a love of learning, and curiosity needed to thrive in a complex, ever-changing world. Our unique approach combines academic excellence with experiential learning, outdoor exploration, and emotional growth. In our classrooms, under the open sky, and through hands-on projects, students are encouraged to ask big questions, tackle real-world challenges, and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Our Tamarindo campus serves as the heart of our community. It’s more than a school; it’s a hub of innovation and collaboration where educators work together to continually refine and evolve our approach. Teachers are not just instructors—they’re mentors, guides, and champions for every student’s potential.
